November FOTM - The Tuna Candy

November’s fly of the month is the Tuna Candy which is simply a species-specific version of the Surf Candy fly pattern made famous primarily by American fly tyer Bob Popovics. The Tuna Candy is a very effective small baitfish pattern that is my first-choice fly for hunting Tuna. Pretty much all Tuna...

October FOTM - The Ultimate shrimp

Sorry for the lateness of this one guys. October’s Fly of the Month is the Ultimate Shrimp. Originally created by professional fly tier Johnno Makim this fly is a shallow, clear water flats specialist in my opinion, a good fly for those crystal-clear flats where a fly that’s too big, too bright or t...

September FOTM - the Lefty's Deceiver

Since then it has become possibly one of the most popular and copied flies in the world. Pr...

Re: Bay of Rest access

Hey Torren, I can't remember who, but someone who had recently returned from Exmouth said that the track into the Bay of Rest, in particular the gate at the station boundary is now closed/locked and you have to drive down to the station (Exmouth) and pay for the key to get you in !!!! apparently ? :...

August FOTM - The Disco Shrimp (surface popper)

This month’s Fly of the month is my take on the West Aussie version of the Disco shrimp, a fly originally developed by American professional tier Drew Chicone (for Snook, Redfish, baby Tarpon etc). This fly was first introduced to our club by Perth kayak Bream fisher Paul Vogel, Paul took Drew’s ori...

Re: Margert river

Hey Dan, can't say I've fished the Margret River myself, hear there is a reasonably healthy population of black bream in it though ? Or you could go down to the mouth of the Blackwood as a back up ? (Herring, Salmon trout, Skippy etc from shore), only a short drive. :)
