Post by Liam Surridge » Mon Aug 08, 2016 7:24 pm

Interesting summary of what is being released on market.

I wouldn't mind giving the Scott Flex a fish....

Has anyone cast / fished with either the Hardy Zephrus or Sage Salt 10# rods? Any opinions on either would be appreciated particularly wrt lifting power (longies mostly).
Thanks
Allan

Hi Allan,

I've park cast a Salt 10# and was very impressed. I fished the Salt 11# last week in Exmouth and loved it too. I don't think lifting power will be a problem with either of these rods.

Tony has a 10#, so he might be able to give you some more feedback.

I haven't cast the Hardy, so I can't comment on that one.

Cheers, Dave.

Hi Al
I have the Salt 10. Lots of lifting/pulling power to get fish up from the deep. It's a real fish fighting tool. I don't have any experience with the Hardy. Give me a bell if you want to have a look at the Salt.

Thanks guys - much appreciated.
Tony, if I could have a flick with your Salt 10# that would be great. I'll give you a bell tomorrow.
Cheers

Yeah , I have Salt 10, I have to admit it has been used very sparingly. It certainly has power , feel and casts well. I don't think it would be fair to over analyse its casting ability, it is designed to cast larger flies and fight saltwater game fish, casting "finesse" would have been a secondary consideration. Lifting power for Longtails ... yeah absolutely and it certainly has the power to bash out a big fly a good distance. If you are looking for a "finesse " casting rod look at the Sage X.
