Hi guys I’m going to be manufacturing some plonks
And I’m wondering what people’s experience have been using these.

Iv got several designs in my head and on paper some Are simple & some look like a submarine mine from ww2.

What I’d like to know is what ideas others have regarding design and weights ect

I’ll be testing v1 over the Xmas break and making a couple others for people to test to come up with a final design suited to the places we fish

We first saw these when fishing with Alan "Fish" Philliskirk in Weipa.
Simple is best. This design works.
Things you need to keep in mind.
Weight is the key. My plonk weighs 9kg. It's just about right for my boat, which is just under 5.5 meters. For a boat your size, I would think 6-7 kg would be plenty. In strong wind/current, the boat will still move slowly. We used a stainless dog bowl as a cast.
Make sure there is a cross bar inside the lead to stop it pulling through.
Make sure the shackle is a tight fit. If it rattles and clinks, it's going to spook fish.
I've found the plonk most effective in shallow water. ie less than 2 meters. I have 10 meters of rope, and depending on how windy it is, will determine how much rope I have out.
Hold on when it grabs onto a small limestone ledge. An unexpected swim usually occurs.

Keen to see what you come up with. I need something like this for a trip in a few months. My problem ( one of many others) is that my boat has significantly more windage than Tony's

I’m working on one that’s going to be adjustable between 6kg and up to 14kg To suit conditions
