Fly line storage

Post by Matt Bailey » Sun Jan 12, 2020 3:59 pm

Hi flyrodders,

How do you all store your fly lines when you are not using them, after changing lines?

Interested to see what others are using.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt
Club member Craig Radford had some line winders made up. Unfortunately, they are no longer available. The next best option is the Rio cranky. If you have Rio lines keep the cartridge, as you can reuse them with the kit. The othe option is the Omni spool. Attached link for your reference.

I normally use one of these to take the line off the reel:

I store the line in a large ziplock bag with the line details written on the bag. The bags are kept is a large storage box, preferably in order of line weights.

And yes, I have way too many lines ...

I use the Rio cranky kit as well. The lines are generally stored on their original spool.
