My first post so I'll try hard not to mess this one up.
Looking at buying a backup reel and have read some great things about the Allen Alpha 3 - particularly about bang for your buck.
Wondered if anyone might have one and would consider selling it.

Hey mate ,
I got that reel a little while ago. Seems fine can't comment on it haven't fished it much. I have had a Allen kraken for a while caught some good fish on it. If I was u I would get a kraken as has a more sealed drag. Not sealed but more sealed than the alpha and not much more for them.

Hi Matt
Thanks for the advice.
I was talking to Jacques on Saturday just before he flies off to Christmas Island today and he suggested the same thing.
I've been in touch with Kyle from Allen and postage is US$16 - with a 15% discount it make the reel about A$285 delivered.
Begs the question though - is there a better product available here for the money?

For the money, the Allen reels are hard to beat. I've had 7 Allen reels and they were all very good for the price paid. The only reason I no longer have them is that I wanted to upgrade to reels that were even better quality (but nowhere near as cheap ...)

Thanks Graeme
This post by you below in 2013 made me look at them in the first instance.
"I've got 9 Allen reels: 3 x Krakens, 3 x Alpha II, 2 x Trout and a Trout II"
An Allen it is.
Thanks for all the advice - very much appreciated.

Marko, Sage 2200 series mid $100's , best value on the market. Are they as good as Allen, thats a tough question, in my opinion they will perform as well. I will take any disagreement on board because i have only had a quick play with Allen reels, and though they were OK.
