Tropical Intermediate Lines

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a new 10# tropical intermediate line for Exmouth.

I haven't bought one for a while - anyone got any feedback/recommendations on the current offerings from Rio, SA etc?

Rio Saltwater for me Dave. SA sonar is another option. The Rio is a little more delicate with presentations. SA will probably stand up to hotter temperatures. Ie 40+ degree days on the deck of a boat.
If you can find a SA Tarpon textured intermediate, that was an awesome line. Unfortunately it's now discontinued. I haven't tried any other line brands in a 10 weight.

I'm pretty happy with the Airflo Tropical Intermediate. The head is a fraction short but the line handles well in the heat. I also use the cold water version (Striper) here for salmon. Having the choice between the lines in Exmouth is good - sometimes the water and air temps there are not quite tropical enough for the Tropical line.

How do you find using them Metro? I find mine gets better as the day goes on and air and water temps increase. Bit slow and hard work for first light fishing. What brands are you using here?

Dee, generally I find the tropical lines ok to use in Perth. I mainly use them from a boat, so your mileage may vary if you are wading with them.

Thanks for the feedback Tony and Graeme. I was a bit put off by the Rio website indicating the Saltwater Intermediate only has a 30' head (bit shorter than I would like), but I am starting to suspect this may be a mistake.

Rio has a temperate version intermediate. I think it's the striped bass. Similar profile to the saltwater.
Graeme, what is the Airflo like for line twist. Used to be a real issue, and the reason I stopped buying Airflo lines. A shame really, because the poly coating they use seemed to wear better than the other lines on the market.

After reading the spec's I've realised I've got a couple of them in the old streamer express style.

Tony, I have fewer tangle troubles with the Airflo lines than with Rio lines. Both require the normal untwisting routines if the back cast is a flat one but I no longer get a lot of line twist these days.
