Floating Line Selection

Hi Guy's,

I am in the market to get a decent floating line, something that loads and shoots quickly with low memory. Mainly going to be using it for popping for Salmon, GT's, Queenies etc / slow sinking for snapper. Also trying to decide if I should get it for the TFO 8#, Sage Salt HD 9# or Strudwick DBT 10#. Not sure if that would change the floating nomination that much?

How many lines are you after Dee? I see three line weights and two temperature ranges.

If I could get away with one line that would be ideal. If not then I guess a nomination for the hot and cold as I really want to land a snapper on fly down here now that I understand it better. Still need to decide what weight rod to get it for. I have 3 x 8# rods, so could potentially have 3 different set ups rigged up there but not sure how it would go with bigger fish up in Exmouth. Probably under gunned. So I reckon it will be down to the 9# & 10#. I have a Rio Flat's Pro with the 6' clear intermediate tip on the 9# which I am hoping to be the flats rod for Exmouth Permit and Bastards etc so Maybe the 10# would be the go? I have an intermediate and fast sink for that.

Perhaps the Rio "Summer Redfish" line fits the bill. Other than the tropical Outbound Short, I use the Rio tropical lines all year round. (Not the InTouch ones yet.)

The other line that might work well for you is an Airflo Redfish. They handle hot and cold water very well.

Dee. There is a full float version of the flats pro. Chunky line that is going to handle poppers well. Other option is the new rio direct core bonefish. Bonefish only goes up to a 9wt. Fine presentation taper. Won't like really big/wind resistant poppers, but will manage to throw poppers. Both these lines are on low stretch cores. I feel they offer a big advantage in feeling the eat over standard core lines. Good feedback from guys fishing the new SA amplitude lines, but I haven't tried one yet.
Your sink tip flats pro will work poppers well. Just can't let it stay at rest too long.

Good link Graeme, I may read through the rest of the reviews on there. Certainly puts a few more lines into the spotlight. Thanks men, some food for thought there, I do love the Rio Flats Pro all right. I might hold off until I see if I can win this raffle prize next week! Ha! Ha!
