Fishing around Perth.

Post by Stephen Preston » Tue Oct 07, 2025 11:30 pm

Hi Saltwater fly fishers.
I am visiting Perth in mid November staying in Scarborough so was wondering if the beach there is worth a cast or two. Also any info on a local guide for Perth area would be appreciated and would a trip to Exmouth be worthwhile at this time?
Cheers
Steve

Hi Stephen. No guides that work out of Perth. There’s not a great deal happening around Perth that time of year. Beaches around Scarborough will possibly hold tailor, however, conditions mean it’s hard to target with fly. 8 or 9 weight if you want to try.
Canning and Swan rivers would be an option. Generally smaller fare like bream and flathead. A 5 or 6 weight will be fine.
Exmouth in November is coming into prime time, however, it can be very windy. If you have limited time, I would try and tee up one of the guides. It’s a big place if you have never fished there before.

Hi Tony. Thanks for the info. I will have a go with the fly when I can and maybe book a guide in Exmouth. My main reason for being in Perth is visiting family but it’s always exciting to fish somewhere new.
Steve.
