The forecasted light northerlies some days kicked to 20 knots. As a result, the gulf was dirty the second half of the week. The guides were doing well early in the week, but were also struggling later in the week. Steve and I probably had our worst trip to Exmouth in terms of fish caught. Saw plenty of fish, but for one reason or another, just didn't convert into capures.
Sharing a unit with Dave and Jon was hard. We were up till midnight most nights with an aching gut full of laughter. Trying to get up early was always going to be a mission. One of the most enjoyable trips I've had in that regard.
Thanks Gavin, for all the work organizing Boneheads 2013. Gav has volunteered to organize boneheads 2014.

hi guys,

thanks for now getting me hooked on this special part of WA, as a newbie to Boneheads and pretty raw to saltwater fly and a rough caster too, was made welcome and many crew handed out great help. Great accommodation with top company, good 'refreshments' each eve. Will be trying hard to win the ONE 10wt net year.

cheers Rod P

ps I promise to leave Bannanas at home Noddy......

No problems on the way home this year Pete.
Tough trip with some great captures, I landed my first Permit on fly (56cm). Rohan and I actually had a double hook up of Permit and Bonefish on the first day which was pretty damn exciting. Rohan also landed his first Permit while walking and the finished the trip with a 106cm spaniard in 2.6m of water. Many quite moments between fish this year but still a great trip.
Tony and I learnt expensive lessons this trip with both of us losing rods over board while traveling between spots. Will not be leaving line stripped into the line tamer while traveling from now on.
Thanks for organizing a great trip Gav, can we please avoid July - August next year as this is a very heavy paddling time of the year with the Avon? :)

I had a bloody ball! Didn't catch many fish (except for one quality permit) but learnt a hell of a lot about fly fishing in Exxy. Next year I won't be bringing anywhere near as much gear with me …

No roos for me. I tried to catch up with you guys just south of Billabong, but you weren't around.

Once again, I would like to thank Gav for organising a great trip and Gillies for donating that new rod of mine. I love it, but I'll need to work on the grip: I fished for four hours with it yesterday on Cockburn Sound and my ring finger on my casting hand is killing me (carpal tunnel syndrome).

(PS about the trip out using the Sage ONE yesterday: although I only got one nearly imperceptible take for the day, I caught my best ever fish while trolling a HB lure home on the yak. See below - it weighed 17.8kg and was 124cm long.)
