Hi Guys, Dale here, I need a little advice on waders and boot combo for my fly fishing trip to Hokkaido in a few weeks.

I'll be fishing rivers and lakes with the water temperature around 18c. There will be a bite of bush bashing as well to get to the location.

Any tips will be much appreciated

Dale

I purchased a set of Simms freestone waders and boots earlier this year for a trip to tassie. Never used anything but plastic all in one sets I was very impressed with comfort straight out of the box. Warmth was more a function of what I inside the waders, thermals. I went the cheaper set as I know I'll use them infrequently in the sw. Squish said they hold well as clients sets for guides in Vic and they had good reviews on line.

Hi Dale
The cheap option is to go all in one plastic waders with built in boots. They aren't as comfortable as gortex stocking foot waders. The setback is $$$. You can't go wrong with Simms, as they have the largest size range. You can use them in the salt when you come back as well. Just need to give them a good rinse after each outing. The biggest problem is getting a pair in time for your trip.

G'day mate
I have both the freestone waders and boots .
Currently going through warranty in regards to the soles delaminating around the toes of the boots after they took a hammering in NZ earlier this year?if I had my choice again would probably get the Vapor boots. The freestones are heavy and you feel it at the end of a day's fishing.Although I have had the waders for around 2 years now and they fit perfectly I haven't used them!I generally wet wade thermals and shorts so spend more on the boots than the waders as in my opinion you end up walking more than you fish so a good pair of boots are priceless !
Cheers Alex

Then there's also Patagonia. Seem to be upping their presence in Australia.

What you fishing for Dale? Itoh?

Many thanks for all your advice and tip on waders and boots. My conclusion is I'll wait till I get to Japan and buy some at one of the biggest fly fishing tackle shops in Sapporo.

Cheers,

Dale

The Reddington waders are great value for money, I have a few sets. As for boots I have Simms vapors and they are great, lightweight and drain out well.
