Totally underestimated the challenge of fly fishing for Pelian. Had to invoke all the 'hunter's' instinct in my blood to get reconnected with the fish of my childhood: stealth, stalking skills, awareness of the smallest of things, like angle of the sun, telegraphic ripples from my missteps etc.Thankfully, Guide Julio Dino took care of the technicalities, from the state of art 5wt Cross Rod n Reel, that magic flyline and not to mention the array Zeno J Custom flies. And then, there's the delivery itself. Time spent on the water in Pa Putok Lg Lellang, Tongariro NZ and the Flats in Mandurah paid off. Best laid plans often at mercies of the elements but not this time. Stars aligned and all things came together for this one lucky angler.

Re: Pelian of Sabah
Hi Rubin.........I have had the pleasure of spending a bit of time in Sabah mainly for for work. I have managed to fit a few weekend trips chasing pelian (mahseer). Nick Oii from Tackle Box in KL was kind enough to arrange an introduction to the North Borneo Fly Fishers who helped show me around and importantly meet the the person in each village responsible for issuing the day tickets. I expect to be spending some time there again in the first half of next year and plan to have a go at the black bass around Kalabakan.
Cheers

Re: Pelian of Sabah
Half your luck Mick. I feel I've only just scratched the surface. Now that I know Pelian will take fly, I shall be returning to our wild rivers in Sarawak and see if I could score a trophy version of the ones I hooked on Masalog. Am back to Aussie now and keeping an eye on what weather is doing for Exmouth. Last trip in June with Brett Wolff was a bit of a wash out due to Northerly wind. Good luck with the black bass.
