Sup Guys

Jonas from Switzerland here, maybe real quick about myself, I m a 22 year old troutbum, photography and film lover, love travelling (in combo with flyfishing :D ) and will start my studies (environmental science studies) after this roadtrip with my girlfriend.
I came across you guys via Mark Banntich a lad from Broome whom I came across after finding out that i cant afford australian guiding prices around exmouth :? which seems to be the place where most flyfishing stuff is going down.

We re planning to do a 2 month roadtrip (11 of July till 22nd or 23rd of august), perth to darwin and have a few stops already planned around rottnest island, jurien bay, shark bay, coral bay and exmouth as well as broome, the rest we ll decide more on a day to day basis. Now this is not a fishing only trip obviously but I m sure going to take a few days "off". Of special interest to me is the region around shark bay and the ningaloo reef up to broome, I've never fly fished in saltwater before (but a lot of freshwater all over the place) and especially those queenies and trevallies seem fascinating (ofc also barras =P n permit n bones but lets take one step at a time)
Looking for contacts i also came across dave invanoff who was very helpfull and seems to own a tackle shop in perth, plan is to meet up with him as he said he has a few tips and possible contacts to join fishing.
This is also the main reason I am reaching out to you guys. Personally I enjoy fishing the most together with other people & as fishing new places with limited time is often quite though, it d be awesome to find someone to join.

If there's anyone with advice, contacts or even themselfes happy to take me along, whether from shore or even on a boat let me know :D

Cheers and TL from Switzerland,

Jonas Steiner

Hi Jonas,

If you are passing by Karratha on a weekend after the 16th July I will take you for a fish around the Dampier Archipelago.

Hi Jonas, If you are able to take up Chris's offer it will be well worth it, I can vouch for that. However while having a boat ride can get you into some exceptional fishing, if you do end up on your feet without a guide you can get into some very enjoyable sight fishing for a large variety of species if you take notice of recommendations. Very basically for Coral Bay and Exmouth use a 10kg fluorocarbon Leader, fish the start of the rising tide up to an hour before high for the best fishing. The outgoing tide can occasionally be OK in places but you want to target half way up the incoming tide. At Exmouth have a go at Sandy Bay, Pilgramunna and Lakeside, be careful to pack rod down when walking through sanctuary zones. Dont be afraid to walk kilometres, looking for fish along the way. If you are passing Bluewater Tackleworld Myaree (85 North Lake Rd Myaree) where I work I can go into a few more specifics on Rotto, Jurien and Shark bay as well. We have a range of suitable fly gear i store too so I can show you the kinds of fly patterns and other gear that will work. Cheers

Hi Chris and Rohan,

Thanks for the generous offers and advice! =) @Chris I checked karratha out and we'd definitely be passing after july 16th the only problems might be karinji NP (looks like in case we d be going there we'd make a huge loop around karratha =( so ll have to see with her and weekends but I really hope I can make it, we ll be in touch! @rohan thanks for the advice that sounds like a gooway to start! We will be in perth a few days, also planning to pass by Ivans flyshop but would be great if I also managed to pass by bluewater tackle, fly gear wise I m sort of sorted heavy duty w a 11wt. but a couple of flies never hurt ;)

Does anybody know someone w a boat in exmouth that i could get in touch w directly in case they dont stumble upon this accidentally?

Cheers & thanks again,

Jonas

G'day Jonas,

I'd be happy to catch up with you while you're in Perth. I don't have a boat (just a kayak) so I can't really get you onto any good fish, but I'd be glad to show you what I know about Exmouth on a map over a coffee or a beer.

You'll be visiting Dan's shop (FlyWorld) and he'll have a lot of good information too.

Cheers,
Graeme
