Saltwater Flyrodders

Went fishing at Hamelin Bay over Easter. Managed a few herring and a flattie, but somehow I'm losing the bead eyes of my clousers & charlies! I tie them down with a good number of figure8 wraps and coat it with Sally Hansens, so it should be strong. I use UTC140 thread. Any advise?

mine used to start twisting but i find trying to pick up the line to cast and put the cast down softly really helps maybe try stronger thread?

Are you hitting ground on your backcast Rudolph? Even sand will wear through tying thread.
I x wrap first, then figure 8 over eyes and under shank, and finish off by going around between shank and eye. About 4-8 times each step depending on thickness of thread and size of fly.
Bit hard to explain, but remind me at the next meeting and we can do a short demo. Should have some fly tying gear around on the night.
