Hi there, the new swede here. I'm keen getting down south hunting some of those "salmons". Any tips/sites? Looking from Black point and or Bremer bay along that long cost line. I know nothing about this fishing so sorry my ignorance

. I have a proper 4x4 and not afraid of walking the extra mile.

Hi Magni
Are you thinking land based fly fishing ?
I don't have any experience on the South Coast , except to caution fishing off
the Rocks. Don't be tempted to venture into the wash zones , the rocks are covered
in a extremely slippery algae in combination of razor sharp barnacles .
There is a facebook page called " Salmon Tracker " which will help to pin down where
the most activity is .
Once the bulk of the migration has come around the corner and heading up the West
Coast , think the Southern corners of bays and ledges facing North .
These will be sheltered from the prevailing wind and swell .
Hamlin Bay is a nice spot , Canel Rocks is a great spot to fish off the ledge safely.
Bunker Bay , Meelup .
The club has a Salmon field day coming up , hopefully others with more knowledge
will chime in .

Hi Magni,
Best to try around Dunsborough/Hamelin Bay/Augusta. There are lots of spots to try. And best to fish off a beach too for safety reasons as Mike said. If you are at the next meeting have a chat with me and happy to show you some spots to try. Having a 4x4 helps... It can be bit hit and miss though especially with the warmer water which usually means the fish don't migrate as far up the coast.
The April field day has been changed to the Perth metro as a result of the warmer water FYI.
Regards,
Liam

Thank you!
That's great info! I did not see any schools of fish and swell was very big down there. Had a few casts at a small pod of something (smaller but still same shape, I think), but they just didn't want my fly... properly some other kind of fish. I'll give it an other go the week before easter. Will try Augusta area then. I'll be at the next meeting! Thanks again!
