Hoping to have a few weeks off at the beginning of September and I'm itching to do some exploring.
Haven't been North of Geraldton so looking for somewhere that I could do some land based fly fishing that I can get my 2wd to.
How feasible would fishing the beaches within a few hours walking distance around Denham and Monkey Mia be? Keep going North?
Open to any suggestions.

Hi Jimmy.
Quite feasible to fish Denham and Monkey Mia area on foot from 2WD access points - plenty of places on the drive in to Denham as well where you can pull in and fish like Eagle Bluff and Goulet Bluff. Having said that, some of the better spots are 4wd access, like the Peron Peninsula. You should be able to hire a 4wd pretty easily in Denham - this is what I did a few years ago when I only had a 2wd - so that is another option.
If I was you I would keep going to Exmouth. Lots of good 2WD shore options there - especially on the west coast. Basically anywhere between Tantabiddy and Yardie Creek (excluding sanctuary zones) is worth a go. More chance of catching something big IMHO.
Cheers,
Dave.

Re: 2wd fishing holiday.
Exmouth is a good option but is another 3-4 hours up the road than the time to get to Denham.
About the same distance/time as Denham is Carnarvon. Which might make Carnarvon and the Quobba/Gnarlo coast an option. Two wheel drive access points are reasonably common as the roads go fairly close to spots and then the foot farlane.
How did you guys go when you held Boneheads at Quobba all those years ago?

My wife has booked a week staying in Denham for the family, starting in mid-July, so I'll let you know what I find in the area when I get back. I'll be both land based and fishing from the kayak, probably going to Bottle Bay after recommendations from my fellow yakkers. (That's 4WD though, so probably not on the cards for you.)

The boneheads trip was held at Gnarloo. Quite a few spots that are accessible 2wd. The year we went, the place was lousy with big spangled emperor. Best fishing however is north of the locked gate (4wd track). Not sure if the keys are still accessible.
Around Carnarvon is an area that I would love to explore one day. Care to share some of the stuff you do in your back yard Adam?

Re: 2wd fishing holiday.
I do most of my fishing out of a boat and don't wade/rock hop that often. Having said that the beaches and areas around town are good for whiting, bream, tailor and flathead in winter. Summer is the time of cod, jacks, queenies and trevs. From the blowholes north there is so much options that you can access by 2wd/foot farlane that you can get all the above plus tuna, macs, NW snapper and many more.
Spots to see and do are New Beach, Town Beach, Oyster Creek (you can also walk into the creeks between town beach and Oyster Creek). Town is fairly accessable with the river mouth and fascine good options. One tree point and miaboolia beach have good 2wd access and stuff to walk to. From the blow holes to the Gnarloo boundry you can find what ever you want to do.
The track you refer to Tony is Farque (sp?) and as you have said requires a key.
Anyone travelling through or staying a while should drop me a line.
