Rod Storage and Transport system

G'day guys,

As I mentioned at the meeting last night, I've found out the prices of the core trays with lids that I'm using to store and transport numerous rods.

Image Image

They can safely store 8 normal fly rods:
  • * Each slot holds two normal rods
    * more if you have 6 pc rods or other narrow rods like sub-5wt gear.
    * fewer if you want to keep the rods in their tubes in the trays, where you will only get 4 in each tray. (Let me know if you want to store your rods in their tubes inside the trays: they supply a tray that has 5 slots too.)
Each tray is just over 1m long, so 3 piece 9' rods are accommodated with ease.

The trays are stackable, UV resistant, lockable and very strong.

They are $30.25 each with lid. Why are they so cheap? They aren't "designed" for the fly fishing industry, and therefore aren't inflated by branding. They are actually designed for mining and exploration companies to keep core samples (i.e. rocks) in a safe and secure way.

If you are after one or more, please PM me or send an email to Graeme.Hird@gmail.com and I'll send you my bank details for an EFT. (Nigerian Princesses need not apply. :) )

I'm happy to collect money and pick some up in time for the next meeting.

Cheers,
Graeme

Hi Graham,
What a great idea! I guess they are plastic? And can you tell us the dimensions please?

Thanks

Sam

Graham

Do you think these could be converted into the top of a drawer in a 4wd style drawer that goes int he back of a dual cab ute?

In case Graham doesn't know these sort of drawer (I do)...I saw these at the meeting the other night and while I didn't think about this question at the time, I would think it would go into these quite easily. You may have to bolt/rivit some angle on each side it the sides on your draws are close to the height of the opening (like mine are). Possibly you may not be able to use the lid (but why would you in this situation). They could be great for this usage for things other than rods.

Hey if you buy one and it doesn't work - I'll buy it off you. I will order one at the moment (I'll send you a PM shortly Graham).

Sam, the tray with lid is 1040x410x95mm externally and each slot is 930x70x70mm on the four-slot trays. They are plastic.

Brad, I have no idea, but I think Simon has it covered.

Cheers,
Graeme

Thanks for this hot tip Graeme, I went to Prospectors yesterday and got me the Slimline box with lid and plugs (and a couple of freebies thrown in too). Total cost: $39.87 - a bargain if ever there was one to be had! They have six Slimlines left and are awaiting a next consignment.

The slots are wide and deep enough for two rods in their socks and I can get a three piece 9' rod and a four piece 11'6" rod in there, with about a centimetre to spare. Four piece 9' rods won't be a problem at all.

It is rather flat and light, yet is is quite sturdy. The lid has four strap channels if you want to tie it down on the top of your car, and it fits easily into the boot of a small car or in the back of a series 80. I guess it will go on a boat without any problems too.

It has eight drain holes that can be plugged or you can use them to put a bolt or screw through to fix it to something.

I have attached some photographs to illustrate all.

Outside measurements of box with lid: 1050mm X 335mm X 90mm

Outside measurements of box without lid: 1030mm X 330mm X 76mm

Inside measurements of one slot: 960mm X 70mm X 75mm

Tight loops and tight lines.

Sam

Anyone else for one of the grey trays? I'm likely to go and pick them up next week.

Cheers,
Graeme
