Margaret River

Hi all,

Im new to the forum. I usually frequent the saltwaterflyfishing forum but as luck would have it I'll be heading to Margaret River for Easter Holidays in late March / early April staying in the Yallingup area.

Any tips on where to go and what to fish for that time of the year? Or would anyone be keen to meet up for a fish?

I'm based in Singapore (a change having lived on the east coast in Oz for close to 20yrs) and have done quite a bit of fishing around the region and beyond, so would be happy to return the favor for forumites headed this way.

Cheers,
Kelvin

I grew up in Margaret River and now live in Busselton just up the road. Flyfishing wise there is just the usual herring and bread and butter fish etc around though you may get lucky if the salmon arrive early. But fishing is fishing. Worst case theres usually the faithful squid the chase and chew on. Send me a message when your closer to arriving. Sure I could get you out for a fish on the galey.

In terms of solo options, theres alot of beach to explore between busselton and dunsborough. Alot of it is barren but there are little sand bars etc around that hold whiting and flathead etc. On the west coast its pretty much surf beaches and rock fishing. Need good weather and low swell to be able to flyfish alot of it.

There are small bream inside the margaret river itself near the mouth if you walk up a bit- beware of tiger snakes.

Its a nice place to get stuck into one of the local breweries and just enjoy the local produce.

Sounds good Brad. I haven't tried the whiting on popper thing but would love to give that a go if they're around. Salmon would be a bonus.

Thanks for the offer. I'll look you up closer to the trip.

Cheers,
Kelvin
