Salmon

Post by Rudi » Wed Mar 23, 2016 3:51 pm

Looks like it’s going to be another great run this year with reports of fish being caught in Perth already. Spoke with a mate at work today who lives in Margaret River who said there were loads of schools at Boranup beach yesterday and he gave me the directions to a 4x4 track down to the beach. If there’s anyone heading down south for the long weekend and want to go hunt salmon on Friday give me shout. I’ll be in Dunsborough for the long weekend. A salmon from the beach tops a salmon from the boat any day :D

Had a good session last weekend though the school wouldnt have been close enough to the beach to reach it with fly. We were only just within range of those throwing metals.

I really wanted to hear the harfin scream and it was a little windy too so I used a 10wt outfit, otherwise I would have cracked out the 8wt for a bit more fun. Only thing on light gear is they will fight themselves to death... literally. Some people like em but salmon are only good for catch and release in my mind. Theres better things to eat that swim in those waters.

Yep i would only do the one and keep it for burley at a later date. Had a bit of fun the other week with bonito on the 5wt!

Good stuff! Cant wait! Nothing like getting a salmon into the shore and then see it peel everything you worked so hard for back off into the backing again!

Dee :D

Nice fish Brad, in conditions like that site fishing to Salmon is the best. I can't wait for them to make it to Perth, may have to do a lightening run down south for them this Easter weekend ? :)
