Hi folks, looking to replace my 100Ah deep cycle I use for the Mini Kota with a Lithium equivalent.
Anyone using a Lithium to run their trolling motors? and if so good/bad/otherwise?
cheers
Gav

You could ring
https://www.goodchild.com.au/about-us/
And ask them if they do lithium, doesn’t say anything on their website.
IE I bought my Colorado battery from them 900cca for $109 plus gst .

I’ve been using lithium for both my starting (40hp) and MinnKota batteries for the last 4 years. I upgraded my 55lb 2009 MK to a new one about a year ago. Both the motor and battery performed well. Caveats are don’t go above 85% power for long, other than that I’ve not noticed any difference in performance between my old agm.
I do have a 15amp lithium charger I use at home to manage the battery. When on the water for upto 10 or 12 days I get away with charging from my motors alternator and using the MinnKota for 4-6hrs a day on 4 and the motor, mostly on idle, for a similar amount of time. I find the lithiums charge faster in the alternator than the arms did.
Hope that helps.
Adam

Hi Gav
Not sure about the current situation but Minn kota website was saying
That they don't recommend lithium batteries.
I bought 2 X 100 amp / hour lithium back in 2020 from Itechworld.
Can't give you any technical feedback , need someone like Brian
Who has way more knowledge.
Been swapping my 24v Minn kota between various boats no issues.
Have done trips to Exmouth , Dampier and Point Samson in a 4.4 metre
Makocraft , hiding from the Rangers and have gone 4 days without charging
with no noticeable drop in performance.
Last 3 years have been managing around 16 weeks per year up at Exmouth.
Only using a 4.2 metre dinghy though . Using the Minn kota extensively.
I also bought a 40 amp charger from Itechworld and using a generator I can
charge the batteries every 2 or 3 days in around an hour .
Given that Minn kota didn't recommend lithium I try not to go above # 5 on the
speed .

post-script - I ended up replacing with a normal deep cycle and will use the savings to instal a BEP voltage sensing relay.

hi Gav, I’m using a pair of itech world 100ah batteries for my 24 volt MinKota Ulterra trolling motor, found them great for capacity and light weight in my boat, I’ve also fitted a troll madter device to charge them when the outboard motors running and have requiredminimal topping up before an outing after a full day’s usage.
