Saltwater Flyrodders

Hi guys,

I am thinking of investing some time in teaching the kids, 6 & 8, how to flyfish and pass down my bad habits!

I have two 6 weights I was going to start them off with. One is a fast and I think the other is a medium. Assuming the medium would be more forgiving?

Wondering if there is a particular line that would best suit beginners? Also thinking a floater would probably be the best option.

Likely starting off on the lawn before heading to the beach.

Kids generally pick up casting much faster than adults. They tend to mimic what they see pretty quickly. However, that also means picking up bad habits.
I wouldn't push them too hard. They have to want to try out what dad is doing. As with any practice casting a bright line that they can track easily will be good. Floating lines are easier to source. Medium action rod will be fine.
Short casting sessions so they don't get bored. Set up some games to keep their interest. ie a couple of targets set up for them to aim at.
