Saltwater Flyrodders

Hi all
We have a tying day organized for Sunday 22nd March 2015.
At this stage venue will be Bluewater Myaree. 85-87 North Lake Road, Myaree WA 6154.
Start time 10.30am.
Please check back here closer to the date in case there has to be a change of venue.
This is a good opportunity for someone learning to get into fly tying to learn the basics. If there is a particular pattern that you would like to learn, there's usually a few guys around that can help you. It's usually a fun day so make the time and come along.

Just wondering what time this usually wraps up? Unfortunately I have commitments on in the morning but would love to get a bit of advice about tying for exmouth....

Hi Ash, it's a pretty casual affair, we just get together, tie stuff and swap tall stories, so how long it goes is quite open ended, but as a guide we will likely still be at it by 1pm, but will usually have more or less wound things up by 2pm. No guarantees.

Just confirming that tying day is this coming Sunday.

I just drove 13/4 hours to find there is no parking place is choka full, looks like I'll be taking lures and plastics to boneheads ha ha have a good day ill try again next time

Just rat the fly boxes at night when they are all tired and emotional. The other great place to find flies is boat consoles...

I'm sure there is enough people around to give you some pointers. What were you looking for help on?

Hi adam I just wanting to know wat flies to tie for boneheads only 4 and a bit weeks to go and I have to learn and tie flies for that trip that's all got heaps of 5-7" plastics that would work ha ha

If you have a dig through some of the forum posts here and on the net you'll get many good pointers. I'd concentrate on just a couple to start with. I tend to catch 90% of my fish in Exmouth on clousers - 70% yellow/white, 20% white/white and then 10% a mix of pink/white, pink/yellow and others. Most are tided on SL12 2/0 hooks. I then have a mix of some decievers/brush/fat boy style flies, a handful of crab/prawns and some poppers (because I'm a sucker for top water).

There is always a better fly for the day but over the last 15 years this is what works for me and how and where I fish, 100% gulf. If your chasing bones on the west coast some heavy gotchas are the go I under stand...

I've just started to add some smaller flies into the mix for lighter rods and small species such as bream and whiting with the kids too.

I'm sure Vimeo or youtube will provide enough insight to actualy tying them. Morsies book "A few good flies" is a good investment too. The DVD I still pull out and lend to beginers is one I watched on video with Lefty tying a range of patterns. It is a great video because he goes into the technique with the tools and material as well.
