Saltwater Flyrodders

For any of the guy's who missed the last club meeting, we showed a few of the better captures from the Christmas break. Below are some of the better fish we (Tony, Arnold, Kyle, Roger, Troy, Dave, Eric and I) caught on our annual Exmouth trip this year. We had some pretty amazing weather for most of the trip for that time of year. Some pretty awesome fish were both landed and lost and a lot of fun had. I'll be the first to admit that personally thanks to a very large can of 'TIN ASS' and a healthy dose of good luck (Tony's boat driving & Troy's eyes) I managed to tick off a few trophy fish and species for the trip.

Highlight for me was learning so much about painted sweetlip. Great fish that lives in great country.

Some nice fish there fellas...particularly like that cobia, that's a cracking catch.

The ''Painted Sweetlip" was claimed as a club record and after doing plenty of research, comparing pics, counting fin rays it was put through as a genuine "Blue Bastard", a newly described, by science fish that was originally identified in queensland, but scientific documents say that it is also present in Exmouth, etc on the west coast from 'Photographic evidence' , so Steves fish seems to be a Blue Bastard - Plectorchinus Caeruleonothus rather than Painted Sweetlips Plectorchinus Pictus.

thanks for the info. I love the fact the scientists describing the species used the colloquial name to derive the Latin name. caeruleonothus is from the Latin caeruleo (blue) and nothus (bastard).
