Welcome Dean
Take a walk around the Swan or Canning during the weekend. You'll quickly see where people are fishing, and work out if you can fly fish those locations. East Perth and the opposite bank around Burswood casino are usually reliable spots. Around Canning Bridge is also a good option. Down river, you have Point Roe, Point Resolution, Point Walter etc. Lots of road access, so you can do a reccie by car for fishable spots.
I would downsize to 4-6 wt gear. Freshwater rods are fine. Just remember to give all gear a good rinse down after every session. Downsize your flies accordingly. Some guys in the club are using size 12 flies for bream. Generally size 2-6 flies are fine.
Fishing reports in The West and Sunday Times are also a good source of information. Take it with a pinch of salt, as they do have to be able to sell newspapers. :P
