Water proof fly storage

I'm sure most of the club has seen or has one of the kin chrome style DIY fly boxes I saw Steve, Tony and Albert sporting.


But is it possible for someone to put up some details, dimensions and photos?

You can pick up the waterproof cases (or ones just like them) from the safety section of Masters for $39. As for the innards, you're on your own there. I can't help.

Well, actually, I can help, but I make my fly boxes in a different way, so I can't help with what Tony has, but my own method uses that self-adhesive draft strip you buy from Clark Rubber and plastic food boxes …

Pretty sure this is the one. Bunnings stock them. Just have to find one that the boys haven't raided yet. One of your local hardware stores may be able to order it in for you if they deal with Kincrome.

We got sick of flies getting wet in the bugger box. I picked up some foam from Clark rubber. Steve and Albert used the foam mats that you can get from local hardware store. You want something that's reasonable dense.
Sharp razor to cut the slits. I went 5mm gaps on the lid side and 15mm for bigger flies. I found it was easier to cut the foam before glueing. The other tip is not to cut all the way through to the bottom of the foam. Liquid nails to glue.

Thanks Tony. That matches with what my memory said as well. The foam looked about 10mm thick as well.

I liked the idea of making the middle tier as well with the corner rises from the bottom and the reinforced mat material.

Graeme I've done that with pencil cases et al as well. I felt a little inadiquate and like the idea of the boom proof nature of the kin chrome/pelican/seahorse box.

Masters now have a series of high quality boxes, waterproof to 30m. They are branded "Otter Boxes".

I bought 2 "size 3000" boxes and a size 2000 in clear. The 3000 has internal dimensions of 7.64"x3.72"x1.23" (according to the label) and the 2000 is 5.7"x3.1"x.97".

After inserting sliced foam, these larger boxes are the new homes for my large snapper flies (squid and crustacea), while I'll use the smaller box for smaller flies when wading.

These boxes look boom proof to me!
