A good fly pattern is olive over off white clouser tied using Steve Farrars material. Officially now known as the "chief of the reef clouser".

Another good clouser colour is a white with red thread. One of Rosco's favourites and very effective.

Tan coloured crabs have been used in some years with good results.

As for rods this what I will be taking.

A good general purpose rod is a 9 weight with an intermediate line such as a which will cover most of the shore based opportunities. a 10 is also good choice. I have an 8 to be a little light for when you find the big stuff.

10 and 12's with a heaving sinking such as Rio deep sea for using from a boat.

I will also be taking a 6 weight to use in the gulf.

Adding to Doug's post 2/0 clousers are pretty much standard fare. Throw in some deceivers and surf candies. Buggy looking flies like squimps won't go astray either. 2/0 and 4/0 Fat Boys if you're serious about trying to hook something big. Surface flies like poppers and crease flies are always fun, but they're not the easiest things to cast. You can fish these with an intermediate, as long as you start your retreive as soon as the fly hits the water.
Stripping baskets are handy if you are shore based. Check with Rohan at Bluewater Melville and see if they have any of the custom made ones. Rock hopper booties are standard fare for walking the beaches. Gives you moderate protection from stone fish, and grip on slippery rocks.
March in Exmouth is still pretty hot. Tropical rated lines will make life easier. I used the new SA Sharkskin Tarpon Intermediate this past christmas, and it's an awesome line. Other inter worth looking at is the Rio Saltwater. Sinking lines, Rio Leviathan, Rio Deep Sea, SA Streamer Express are all good options.
Think about what you'll be wearing out on the water. The sun is unforgiving, and it's a long day on the flats. Make sure you carry enough water with you.
I'll bring some flies down to the next club meeting for those that still aren't sure.

You will hear a lot about these fellows this year. Some of photos and the go-pro footage will be awesome.
