Sounds like a wicked session mate.... Well done

Spent yesterday afternoon casting at a school just off hillarys that managed to stay out of range for a couple of hours. Drove me crazy watching them send bait fish skyward but never quite coning close enough to take my offerings. Frustrating to the max...

Back to the kayak this weekend, fingers crossed

Yeah they go hard, even on the 10 weight.

Ash I spent a lot of time off Hillarys last season...didn't see one bloody fish.

Ha ha that'd be right.... Funny thing was how oblivious every bait fisho was. At one point I was running down whitfords beach trying to keep up with the school, getting soaked by the surf and looking like an idiot fly casting into the wind! No one seemed to notice.... Hmmm maybe they were just having a good laugh at my expense!

Been thinking this last week about having a cast around some reefy areas between Hillary's and trigg. With easterlys predicted for a few afternoons i thought it might be worth a shot.

Anyone had any luck around this area for salmon?

Cheers

Hi Rick. Top effort. Landing fish with a swell at North Mole is no fun. Didn't anyone offer to gaff your fish for you.
Ash, have a look around Penguin Island and Point Peron. There were fish there on the weekend.

Yeah Tony it was gaff central down there, I got some strange looks from them when I refused the help ;)
It is kinda satisfying bringing the fish to hand Myself unhooking and releasing, all park of the expereience...if not for the crowds. :?

Ash yeah Ive not flyfished that part of the metro coast much. I have on occasion been know to throw gear off that rock ledge for tailor at trigg up from the surf club and directly down from the car park. Nice spot, Ive wanted to try it with fly gear at a hight tide, but a stripping basket will be esential. Must admitt though there are some really nice gutters along that section of coast that would be good fly water, its just the line management thing that I find frustrating.

Will probably try Point Peron or Penguin Island myself when im back off shift.

Good man Rick!

I have salmon on the brain at the moment. Couldn't sleep Wednesday night I was thinking about them so much. Said there was no point lying in bed pretending to sleep so I got up and headed to the dreaded North Mole thinking that it would be emptyish at that time of day as everyone would be probably asleep before work. Looks like a few other people couldn't sleep as well! lol  Fished till 7:50am and then had to get out of it to go to work. Not a sausage! Only saw one guy catch a double blow fish. Hoping things will be different this weekend as I will be on a serious hunt!

Mad to pop my land based salmon on the fly cherry! lol :D

Also, on another note, I have a weeks holidays next week. Normally I get up and start fishing in the dark into first light. Is that a good salmon time or are they more middle of the day or last light fish?

thanks :)

Nice work Rick :)

Diarmuid, in my experience time of day is not particularly important for Salmon, except in terms of being able to see them (middle of the day obviously easier).

Having said that, always best if you can find the fish before 50 other people have bombarded them with lures and star sinkers! :D
