Harfin reels

Post by Stephen Bradbury » Fri Jun 05, 2015 5:18 pm

For those of you who don't already know and those that do, we now have some new quality fly reels that are made in Australia (Seaford, Melbourne, Victoria) and are available to purchase direct from the manufacturer. Ash Dunsmore and his partners from Barton engineering (flyfishing tragics) have been working for a couple of years on designing, testing, manufacturing and selling their own fly reels and now all that hard work has come to fruition. The Harfin Reel Company (name comes from a combination of Ash's kids, Harrison & Fin) has it's website and online store up and running as well as facebook and instagram pages. Reel prices are very reasonable for a product that's not mass produced and made in Australia. I think we are lucky to have a quality fly reel like this made in Australia that can match it and even surpass some of its European and American imported cousins. The reels are CNC machined from bar stock aluminium, Anodised in-house in a variety of colours, have 316 S/S main shafts & fixings and feature a modern, fully sealed, stacked Rulon/316 S/S drag system (very similar to the drags found in Hatch & Nautilus reels). I've been lucky enough (like some other members) to purchase and try out a couple of these reels over the last three months or so and I can say that I'm very impressed so far. The reels are very strong, the drag is smooth and has plenty of stopping power, they have good med/large arbor sizes, narrow spools (1in, less thumbing return line), a quality finish and personally I think they look pretty cool as well ! See attached photo's of the LR100 (7-8 wt) model and the LR110 (9-10 wt) model.
