Hi Folks, where do you suggest l go to get a wee bit of flyfishing in.
Still staying in Perth for the month but heading down to MR for a few days before Xmas

Yeah, the Trout will be tough at that time of year, still superb scenery down Pemberton way though and the chance of some big Redfin Perch particularly if you can organise a keyak and paddle up the warren. If you can't go too far ( esperance or exmouth ) for guarenteed action, try some of the estuary's, walpole inlet, blackwood river or even Perth's swan river for Black Bream, Flathead etc

Thanks Jarrad, we are definitely heading down Mandurah way and then on to Margaret River for a few days.

My partners son has just bought a house in Bayswater and l notice its quite close to The Swan River, can l buy a permit to fish there.

you dont need a permit to fish the swan river but if you are going to do fresh water fishing yes you will need a permit
if your fishing in the swan youll absolutly love it as some of the other guys on here can tell you plenty of snags about well like i said if you make it here give me a shout ive evne got a spare fly rod

If you fish out of a boat someone on board will need a recreational skipper's ticket and a fishing from boat license.

Thanks guys, lm hoping to be able to just walk along the river and have a wee flyfish, lm expecting the weather to be hot so not wanting to be carrying too much gear.
So ideas on best time of day, what flies and lines and close to bayswater with easy casting without the need for wading

Most of the shore fishing on Swan River involves wading. Main target for around Bassandean would be black bream and yellowtail grunter. That time of the year should see some herring, tailor, flathead and flounder around as well. A handful of clousers and charlies in size 2 - 8 would see your through. I fish mostly floating lines. Some guys prefer intermediate lines.

Thanks Tony, I will worry about the wading when l get there.
What weight of rod would you suggest, bearing in mind that l use a 3 weight in Scotland with size 18 - 22 flies
Though l do have a 7 weight for rainbows so l am used to heavier rods
