Casting day Sunday 22 March 2020

Post by Tony Ong » Sun Mar 15, 2020 4:33 pm

Hi all
We have a casting day scheduled for next Sunday
Venue is Nedlands Rugby Club grounds. River end of the Broadway, Nedlands.
Start time is 9.00am. We'll go till everyone runs out of puff.
A sausage sizzle will also be organized for lunch.
There's a couple of new rods that will be available to try.
Peter Morse has kindly sent across a brand new Sage Maverick 8 weight. It's a mid price point offering from Sage. I've had a quick cast of it and it feels pretty good. Heavy weights available in 10, 11 & 12. They also do a 14 for those that want a stick to chase billfish and things that pull hard.
Dan from Flyworld is also trying to arrange a couple of other rods to be available on the day. Hoping that they arrive on time. Come along and have a look to see what's new.
As usual, if you would like to have some casting tips, there will be a few guys on hand to help out. Graeme should be along on the day.
All welcome to come along.
Hope to see you there.

Hi all
These are testing times. There has been a fair bit of discussion amongst the committee regarding events that are held by the club. A this stage, we are still within recommendations put out by government and health bodies.
We usually get around 25 to a casting day, and it's an outdoor activity. We will need to be mindful of social distancing and recommendations put forward by the health department.
As such, we have decided that the casting day will still go ahead. Start time 9.00 am, and we'll probably finish by 1.00. We won't be offering the sausage sizzle or nibbles to try and limit interaction with each other. Please bring along your own wipes, hand sanitizers, etc. We will endeavour to bring some along, however, it may be hard to find some in time for the event, as a lot of places have sold out of these items.
If you have travelled in the last 14 days, or are feeling unwell, please look after your fellow club members by not attending. If you are one of those in the high risk category ie, have health issues that may result in complications with corvid 19, or are of an age where risks are higher, please consider if this is a risky activity for you to participate in.
Life goes on, but we have to be mindful that we don't spread this virus any further. The monthly meeting is still a couple of weeks away. We'll make an announcement closer to the date if the meeting will go ahead.

A little more information regarding some new rods that will be available at the casting day.
Sage Maverick 8 weight, kindly loaned from Peter Morse.
Dan from Flyworld has a Sage Payload 8 weight. He's going to be bringing this along. Dan also has a couple of the new Scott Sector in a 9 & 10 weight. Touch and go if these will be here in time for the casting day. If not, these will be in store for anyone wishing to have a look at one. Dan is also going to be bringing along a handful of other rod offerings from Primal, Echo, Reddington & Airflo.

Hi Torren
A small but eager group attended the casting day. Unfortunately, the Scott Sectors didn't get here on time. Hopefully some members picked up some casting tips to improve their casting.
