An Intro ....

G'day guys,

I thought I better introduce myself. I was a member of the old forum but not the club. I almost never posted on the old forum, but I have now renewed my interest in fly fishing with vigour, so I'll be joining the club at the next meeting.

I fish mainly from a kayak, and I mainly chase snapper in Cockburn Sound. Recently, I've discovered the joys of also chasing "lesser" species (bream, tailor, herring and flatties) while the snapper bite's a bit slow, having picked up a 5wt TFO BVK rod and matching TFO reel. I'll shortly be expanding that to 7wt and 9wt BVK rods and with reels to suit. (I had a cheap 9wt rod but broke it a couple of weeks ago.) I may even end up with a 3wt somewhere down the line.

I'm still very much a beginner and will be looking for help in my casting (bloody trailing loops .... They should call it Aerial Knitting in my case.). I'm also looking forward to some of these field days I've read about.

Cheers,
Graeme

Welcome Graeme.

FYI - I have just added a link to the 2012 club calendar (including field day details) on the "About Us" page, on the main website.

I would love to get a Cockburn Sound Snapper on fly 8-)

Dave.

Good to see another person collecting odd numbered weight rods!! ;)
Those with evens or a mix of evens and odd are weirdo's to say the least......you know who you are!! :o

Welcome Graeme
Don't listen to Martin. He's bitter, twisted, and odd. You're much better off 'filling in the gaps.' :D
Yell out if you'ld like some tips on casting.

Happy to be an odd bloke - I get called much worse on my recumbent bike … :)

Thanks for the offer Tony. I'm going to spend a little time with Chris Dunham soon and hopefully he can sort me out. I may still take you up on the offer though.

Dave, the first step to getting the Cockburn Sound snapper on fly is easy: leave the boat at home! :) They are easily spooked by motors and the kayak seems to be the best platform to fish from.

Cheers,
Graeme
