Hi all, I have some great news, Gavin Hurley, host of On The Fly has asked me to make him some flies. If you have any ideas please let me know.
Cheers
Flies
Re: Flies
I'd suggest giving him flies that you have caught fish on.
Clousers, Deceivers and Half & Halfs would be most appropriate.
Give him some crabs to round out his box and he'll have all he needs for a SW trip.
Those four flies account for most SW species.

Re: Flies
- Stick with the basic fly patters. Charlies, Clousers, Deceivers, Squimps and Gurglers. Fly patterns you have already tied yourself and have caught fish on.
- Find out where he wants to use them and what fish species he wants to catch. This will determine the fly size and colour combinations.
- Use only good quality hooks. Loosing a fish because the line breaks or knots failure can be blamed on the fisherman. But loosing a fish because the hooks bends or breaks will always be blamed on the fly tier.
- Use only good quality material.
- Tie a few test flies and see how they "swim". Making sure the motion/movement is correct and the fly sits the right way up.
